Buying things online has become a norm for the majority of the population. However, we definitely need to exercise more caution with online shopping especially when your purchase is expensive.

A woman in Singapore recently bought a Chanel bag on the second-hand platform Carousell.

Cheap Chanel bag on Carousell

The woman by the name of Jesshang submitted a story to STOMP where she bought a Chanel bag for 6,800 SGD (RM21,000) on Carousell. Considering the price, it seems like such as steal as other second-hand luxury retailers have priced the bag at 8,400 SGD (RM26,000) and 12,895 SGD (RM39,900).

The listing “Chanel Jumbo Classic Double Flap Bag” was made by a user named Jenny who stated that the bag was 99% new and authentic. It comes in a box with a dust bag, a receipt and an authenticity card.

When Jesshang tried to haggle on the price, the seller was very firm and only made a reduction in a 100 SGD.

The invoices provided by the seller states that she bought the bag in Paris, May 2019.

When wanting to re-sell the 2nd-hand bag…

Jesshang wanted to re-sell the bag so she brought it to a famous second-hand luxury store named Luxury Corner. That was when she found out that the bag is actually fake!

Letter Of Evidence Fake Chanel Bag

Jess confronted the seller and asked for a refund, to which the seller says:

“I used all the money already. You just sell the bag to another person.”

Jess had already lodged a police report.

Well, this certainly teaches us that we have to be extra careful when buying luxury goods. It would be best to bring the product along with the seller to an authentication centre before making the purchase. Do you have any similar stories? Let us know in the comments.
