Following reports that Singapore will soon be easing some of their restrictions after reaching certain goals in their Covid-19 fight, they will also be receiving their first batch of the Pfizer-Biotech coronavirus vaccine before the year ends.
Singapore’s PM revealed the news to the public on Monday, 14 December, informing that the Singaporean Health Sciences Authority has approved the the use of the vaccine jointly produced by Pfizer and their German partner, BioNTech.
He shared that they would be among the first to obtain the vaccine to ‘show you, especially seniors like me, that we believe the vaccines are safe‘.
“After studying the scientific evidence and clinical trial data, the Health Sciences Authority has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for pandemic use.”
“We also expect other vaccines to arrive in coming months. If all goes according to plan, we will have enough vaccines for everyone in Singapore,” he said.
He also ensured Singaporeans will have free access to Covid-19 vaccines, on a voluntary basis and that some older Cabinet ministers will take the vaccine beforehand as a demonstration that the vaccines are safe.
“Now that vaccines are becoming available, we can see light at the end of the tunnel. The more of us are vaccinated, the harder it will be for the virus to spread, and the safer we will all be as a society,” he added.
This comes after the Covid-19 numbers in Singapore dropped to below 10 cases daily. Overall, they have recorded a total of 58,320 cases and 29 deaths.
