Most of us simply cannot afford to buy and drive around in a new car.
While there are promotions that allow you to buy the basic Proton or Perodua with hassle free loans and 0% down payment, some find appeal in the secondhand car market.
If you are one of those who is on the lookout to dive into the used car market, here are several tips shared on Twitter that you should consider when looking around.
“Do not buy cars if they have red flags like this.”
“First, the seatbelt manufacturing date differs from the car manufacturing date. This means that the seatbelts must have been switched out because of an accident.”
“Second, if seat railings show signs of rust, this means that the car may have been involved in a flood.”
“In the engine bay, if the screws are not the same, it may have been in a traffic collision.”
“Check in the engine oil bay, if sludge is found, this means that there is a major problem with the engine.”
These are just a few things you should look out for when looking at the car of your dreams. If in doubt, ask a friend who knows a lot about cars, or your friendly neighbourhood mechanic for some help.
