PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed claims of nepotism regarding his daughter Nurul Izzah’s election as party deputy president, stating that her victory reflects the party’s democratic process.
The prime minister also questioned the actions of those labeling it as nepotism, stating that such accusations are unfair to him and to PKR.
“I still remember, just hours before I was to be arrested and imprisoned, I had no choice but to appoint Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to replace me.”
“She didn’t even know how long she would have to shoulder that responsibility. When Nurul Izzah had to leave university to continue this struggle, no one raised the issue of nepotism then,” he said during his closing speech at the PKR National Congress at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre.

“But why is it being called nepotism now? Wan Azizah, yes, perhaps I chose her out of desperation at the time, but Nurul Izzah was elected (as Deputy President) by the members. The rest, we leave to God,” he added.
Meanwhile, commenting on the results of the PKR Central Leadership Election yesterday, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Chairman expressed confidence that the current leadership lineup is the best team to elevate PKR to greater heights.
“This new Central Leadership Council (MPP) has no factions; both ‘teams’ are represented in the leadership. We may have differing opinions, but we remain united in the same cause.”
“If we show cracks within the party, it won’t succeed. The party cannot be uplifted without a spirit of love and trust among its members,” he said.

He urged all members to move past the issues that arose during the branch elections, as everyone is now part of the same team.
“This lineup has no factions because we’ve embraced both groups. Now, everyone is in one team. I believe this team, with the support of the people, can take PKR to a much higher level than we’ve ever achieve.”
Meanwhile, in a social media post, Anwar said, “I take this opportunity to express my appreciation to KEADILAN figures such as Rafizi Ramli and Nurul Izzah, who have never ceased to contribute their energy and ideas for the party and the people.”
“Differences in opinion should be embraced with wisdom, not used as a reason to divide. We are not enemies of one another, but brothers and sisters in the same struggle.”
