Accidentally forgetting something at home while you’ve arrived at your car can be a nuisance for people who live in apartments and condominiums as it means that they would have to wait for the elevator, go all the way up to their unit, retrieve the forgotten item and head back down to the parking lot.
And while most people will go through the hassle of this, one Singaporean man decided he was going to try something different instead.
Based on a report by Zao Bao, a 30-year-old Singaporean man had lit a Mercedes Benz on fire at a condominium parking lot after forgetting to bring along the car key. But, why did he have to light the car on fire?
Being a Ghost Rider fan, he wanted to imitate the character by using a lighter to burn the vehicle’s ignition to start the car, rather than going back upstairs to retrieve his car key.
At first, the fire merely melted the plastic around the ignition and the dashboard, but the fire quickly spread to the driver’s seat area, causing heavy smoke.
Passersby saw the fire and offered to help put it out but the man allegedly refused help TWICE, believing the car would start eventually.
When the car (obviously) didn’t start, he ended up fleeing the scene as he didn’t know what to do.
Thankfully, with the help of the condominium’s management, 8 fire extinguishers and the building’s sprinkler system, the fire was put out.
The car wasn’t even his
A resident of the condominium also called the police, who arrived at the scene and arrested the man. They found a karambit knife, stun guns, pepper sprays and 2 bags containing drugs in his house.
He later confessed to taking methamphetamines.
It was later revealed that the Mercedes Benz was not his, and was in fact, rented by a friend. He had borrowed the rented vehicle from his friend.
He also does not have a driver’s license, and is apparently a “self-taught” driver.
