Muslim celebrities who dress in a provocative manner may face action under Syariah laws.
Local girl group Dolla recently attracted public attention after appearing in revealing outfits in their latest music video for Question. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, said the matter is being reviewed through an assessment of dress guidelines for Muslim artists.

“From an enforcement point of view, we will see if there is a violation of any regulations, enactments, or Syariah-related laws.”
In this regard, Mohd Na’im said he has asked the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) and the Federal Territories Mufti to review existing guidelines on the attire of Muslim celebrities. He explained that the review is part of efforts following concerns about a handful of Malay Muslim female celebrities who appeared in flashy outfits during performances or in artistic works.
“The guidelines were issued by Jakim, but it’s not wrong to review them,” Mohd Na’im said.
Meanwhile, Mohd Na’im emphasised that celebrities should be more cautious, especially regarding their appearance, as they are often idolised by society, particularly young people.

“When we become idols and role models, as Muslims, we must ensure that every action we take can lead young people toward goodness.”
“I hope these celebrities can set the best example, obey the rules of life as Muslims, and uphold our manners here in the East,” Na’im said, as reported by Malaysia Gazette and Harian Metro.
