Yesterday (15 March), Negeri Sembilan Health Department has responded to the viral video of a rat in one of their children’s wardrooms.

Following the incident, Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar (HTJ) in Seremban immediately conducted an investigation and a few steps have been taken to further improve the place, as well as to prevent history from repeating itself. HTJ will increase the frequency of the cleaning schedule and prioritise the hygiene around the hospital, especially in all wardrooms.

In the meantime, HTJ’s management of concessions has been instructed to identify the “hotspots” for the pests and set mousetraps on the designated spots. Planned preventive maintenance and pests control will also be done based on the frequencies that have been set by the management.

Additionally, the Entomology & Pests Department is also involved to carry out the investigations as well as providing technical advice in order to ensure the effectiveness of the pests control activities.

The state health department also assured the people that the public’s safety and comfort while seeking treatment in the hospitals are always prioritised.

We hope the matter will not repeat as it does not only reflect on the hygiene but also endanger the patients.
