The recent hike in Covid-19 cases in Peninsular Malaysia, particularly in Selangor has prompted state governments to enact several measures to mitigate the spread of the pandemic. Yesterday, the Menteri Besar of Selangor, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Sahari released a press statement detailing several measures that his administration will be doing in Selangor.
In the statement, Amirudin expressed his concern regarding the high number of new cases post the Sabah State Election on 26 September. After a special meeting with the Selangor State Security Council and Covid-19 front liners, one of the measures introduced is the limitation for all restaurants with a ‘bar’ concept to only operate until 11pm.
Previously, all eateries are allowed to operate until 2pm in the state.
Amiruddin said that this decision was in line with the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) as enforced by the National Security Council (MKN). Restaurants with a bar concept should not be confused with bars and night clubs which are different classifications. Night club and bars in Selangor and nationwide can’t operate since the enactment of the Movement Control Order (MCO) back in March.
The limitation of the operation hours of ‘resto-bars’ in Selangor is enforced starting today (3 October 2020). Any premises that do not adhere to this order will have their licenses revoked immediately.
What do you guys think of this decision? Is it a necessary measure to curb the spread of Covid-19? Or should their operating hours be shorten even further? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
