Sarawak will be receiving 500,000 doses of Covid-19 Sinovac vaccine purchased through the state government’s initiative within a week, said Sarawak Assistant Minister of Public Health and Housing, Dr Annuar Rapaee. As reported by Berita Harian, he elaborated that an additional 500,000 doses of the same type of vaccine would also be received by Sarawak after that.
However, he did not state the total cost incurred by the state government to finance the purchase of the vaccine. He said,
“The vaccine will also be given free of charge by the state government to private hospitals to help speed up Sarawak’s immunization program.“
Meanwhile, Dr Annuar, who is also the Coordinator of the Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee, said the third round of the Covid-19 National Immunization Program for the Sibu district for the elderly will be held on May 18 and 19 at the Sibu Indoor Stadium Vaccine Center (PPV).
