After a 5-year long renovation and burning through a whopping RM600 million, the Parliament building was reopened.

It hosted the first meeting of the fifth term of the 13th Parliament on this Monday, March 6.

The King of Malaysia was even invited to officiate the grand opening of the Parliament building!

However, just 2 days into the reopening, the toilets designated for staffs, reporters and visitors were flooded with water, according to China Press.

The water was stagnant in the toilet and even rose up to ankle level. Ewww….

This embarrassing situation happened in both male and female toilets. As the water continued to rise, the toilets had to be closed down in the afternoon to contain the situation. Or the water.

The clogged toilet was not the only problem. It was reported that the screen in the Parliament building that provides live stream of the meeting had no sound.

This meant that the reporters can only see the MPs talking but have absolutely no idea what they were talking about. Apparently the screen should be accompanied by sound so reporters are able to jot down notes from the meeting.

Earlier, Work Minister Fadillah Yusof said the newly renovated Parliament building will incorporate green technology such as installing solar panels, using recycled materials and installing centralised control centre for better energy efficiency. But… what about the toilet?

Meanwhile, minister in Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said during an inspection:

“Overall, I am satisfied with the renovation work and preparations made.”

For your information, the total cost of renovating the Parliament building was originally estimated at RM520 million, but was soon jacked up to RM600 million because a second chamber was added to the building, according to Fadillah as reported by Malaysiakini.

The major renovation came into light after the infamous roof leaks in 2007.

Although the toilet malfunctioned in just 2 days. at least the roof stopped leaking? Or has it?
