A Malaysian child is currently battling for her life in Japan after she was born prematurely while her parents were there for their honeymoon.
Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development, Steven Sim, took the opportunity to seek the public’s help in assisting with the baby’s medical costs in Japan, which are estimated to be around RM1.5 million.

Taking to his Facebook page, Sim explained how this entire situation came to be.
He wrote, “The baby’s name is Alexis Liang Xi Yue. She was born too early. Her body is very small. She is very weak. And now, this child is struggling to survive, far away in Japan. Alexis’s parents, brother Liang and his wife, Chan, had been saving up for a honeymoon in Japan for a long time.”
“However, upon arriving there, the mother suddenly suffered a serious haemorrhage. Before she could get to the hospital, baby Alexis was born much earlier than expected. Alexis was born prematurely, at only 22 weeks, and until today, she is still being treated intensively in a hospital in Japan. Her condition is not yet strong enough to be flown back to Malaysia,” Sim added.

It is said that the baby can only be flown back to Malaysia after reaching the expected gestational age, which is after March 2026.
Help however you can

Upon hearing about this, Sim donated RM50,000 as an initial donation and contacted a friend from the One Hope Charity organisation, who stepped in to sponsor the mum’s stay in Japan so that she could be near her baby and provide breast milk for her baby’s treatment period.
The baby’s medical costs are estimated to be around RM1.5 million.
Sim stated, “A very, very high amount for these young parents. My donation is just the beginning. I would like to invite the public, especially those who are able, to come together to provide assistance, no matter how small, to help baby Alexis and her family through this most challenging time in their lives.”
“Sometimes, hope comes when we choose to help together,” he remarked.
Donations achieved!
A quick check shows that the donation appeal issued by the One Hope Charity organisation has reached its RM1.5 million donation collection within just 3 days.
