Every Malaysian loves a good glass of Ribena every now and then, but it looks like we may have to stay away from the famous blackcurrant drink for a little while!
According to Channel News Asia, Suntory’s regional general manager for Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Singapore announced that the popular cordial drink will have to be recalled due to a “manufacturing error”.
The manager, Lee Hon Tong, stated,
“We wish to announce that during a routine quality check in our factory, we found one error in our manufacturing process.”
A press release that was later sent to WORLD OF BUZZ clarified that ‘a preliminary investigation of the manufacturing process has led them to suspect that the product was exposed to air during the bottling process.’.
In the statement, Suntory voluntarily recalls all their Ribena cordial drinks from supermarkets, warehouses, and other outlets that have expiry dates from 12th August onwards. Good job guys!
Their statement shows a list of Ribena products and their corresponding expiry dates that are being recalled:
They also stated that they have stopped deliveries for all Ribena drinks from its Shah Alam factory to distributors and trading partners for now.
“Our customers’ safety is of the utmost importance. At Suntory Beverage and Food Malaysia, we always monitor and inspect every aspect of our products safely and effectively,” said Lee.
“Although not every bottle is affected, consumers are advised not to drink the product if it appears unusual, tastes or smells sourish or if they are in doubt of the quality of the product. Consumers who are unsure of the quality of their product are encouraged to contact our customer hotline at 1800 88 6200 for more information.”
So, if you have recently bought any of the Ribena cordial drinks with expiry dates that correspond to what was listed, it’s best not to consume it to be on the safe side!
