Residents in China claimed to have spotted an unidentified flying object (UFO) roaming the night sky recently.

On 12 September at 9 PM in Shandong, China, the “UFO” sighting was followed by two loud noises, whereby the flying object appeared to have been shot down.

Residents described the incident as “something out of a science fiction film”

They first observed an object moving rapidly in a parabolic trajectory in the night sky, followed by another luminous object rapidly approaching from a different direction.

When the two objects intersected in the air, a strong flash of light and a loud bang were produced. Some of those who heard the noises thought it was thunder, as it was raining during the incident.

So, was it something from outer space?

Military experts have pointed out that, according to the characteristics described by the witnesses, this was most likely a missile interception test. Experts explained that the first flying object was likely a simulated target missile, while the second was an interceptor missile.

The Chinese Military explained that this type of test is primarily used to verify the interception capabilities of air defence systems, particularly the combat performance of terminal anti-missile technology.

On 13 September, local media asked staff from the Weifang Emergency Management Bureau to verify the matter, but the staff said that the Emergency Management Bureau had not received any news and directly denied the matter, reported World Journal.

At the time of writing, no official notification has been released regarding this incident, and mainstream media outlets in China have not disclosed further details.

Experts emphasise that major powers around the world with interception capabilities regularly conduct military tests, which are necessary measures to maintain national security. You can watch the viral footage here.
