Recently, the Selangor state authorities shared their plan to ban the sales of dogs and cats at pet stores to push community members to adopt, not shop.
Here’s a reason why this is important and necessary.
Netizen, @itsybitsymin, took to her Twitter account to showcase the rescue operation of all kinds of pet animals (dogs, cats and hedgehogs) from a backyard breeder in Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya, and the conditions these animals were in was truly heartbreaking.
She wrote, “You guys really need to stop buying cats and dogs. This is where most of them come from. Even pet shops buy from backyard breeders. You really want a British Shorthair, right? Hah, look at this. Please stop buying, adopt la”.
Among the rescuers was Shima Aris, who spoke to WORLD OF BUZZ on just how distressing the conditions these breeders keep the animals in
“They were all in dirty cages. Babies were vaccinated when they were not even one month old. The big ones are debarked. Breeder admitted that they have never been let out from the cages all their lives,” she said.
For everyone’s information, debarking is the very, insanely cruel process of cutting a dog’s vocal cords so that it cannot bark, and this process is allegedly illegal in Malaysia.
When asked if these breeders will face the consequences of their actions, Shima told us the cold, hard truth
“Nope. That’s the sad reality in Malaysia. Animal abusers, illegal breeders get away easily. That’s why at some point, rescuers have to take our own actions.”
“DVS (Department of Veterinary Services) is not doing their job. They are scared of dogs. How are they supposed to protect animals when they can’t do their job well,” she added.
Considering the breeder was planning on selling all their dogs off as they did not have any use for them anymore after breeding them dry, Shima bought as many as she could and took them all to vets for check ups.
All the dogs were in terrible condition and many had not been treated.
If you would like to help Shima with the veterinary expenses for these rescued animals and her efforts, here’s where you can donate:
So, this is your sign and wake up call to stop buying animals from pet stores for you never know the horror the parents of these pets have to endure. Instead, why not adopt an animal that will be grateful to have a forever home?
