The Johor State Legislative Assembly Member (ADUN) for Skudai, Marina Ibrahim, is calling out Malaysians who occupy People’s Housing Project (PPR) units only to rent them out to others at inflated prices.
Taking to her Facebook page, Marina explained that she has already reported several detected wrongdoers to the State Executive Council (EXCO). She is now urging the public to report perpetrators to ensure that the truly underprivileged can secure a spot in these housing projects.

“EXCO Dato’ Jafni was quick to inform me that, in fact, over the last four years, more than 1,000 people have been caught and evicted,” she wrote. “First of all, I want to remind everyone that the concept of PPRs is that they are transit houses, which are temporary or short-term accommodation.”
The Skudai ADUN added:
“That is why a census is conducted every few years. If you are no longer eligible, you will be removed. PPR houses are not for you to acquire and then sublet to others.
“When you apply, you claim to be in desperate need and struggling. You rent it for RM124 a month, but then you profit by renting it out to others at several times the price.”
If you know something, say something

Marina went on to explain that those currently staying at PPRs have a responsibility to report such abuse so that units can go to those in genuine need.
“If you know of any neighbours in Johor PPRs who are doing this, DM me. I will help report it to the EXCO immediately. Fulfil your responsibility to be the ‘eyes and ears’ and report it. There are many people out there who are waiting their turn and cannot afford to wait any longer,” she said.
“Some people have asked, ‘YB, is it true that if you want a PPR house, you have to pay RM5,000? Many agents are offering this.’ The act of renting out a PPR house is a crime. Please report it,” she added.
She concluded her post by clarifying that one can only apply for PPR houses through the relevant authorities, urging the public not to fall for scammers promising rented PPR units.
