Time and time again, we’ve heard stories of top scorers and straight A students not receiving scholarships or placements in local universities, causing them to seek greener pastures overseas.
This is truly saddening as it leads to Malaysia losing so much potential through future contributors to society.
Emphasizing on this point, MUDA President and Muar MP Syed Saddiq shared the importance of improving the local education system to be more merit-based.
He wrote, “Malaysia is losing some of our smartest and brightest talents due to our outdated education system. There needs to be a policy overhaul for the future of our beloved country.”
“I suggest improving the system to be more ‘merit-based’. For those who come from underprivileged families but have excellent results, they must be helped regardless of religion and race. This is our home, Malaysia.”
This comes after Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim (DSAI) announced that the Bumiputera quota in the education system will be maintained to balance the number of students from that racial group in higher learning institutions (IPT).
“We need to see Malaysia as a national project. To experience hardships and success together.”
“But when the treatment is not fair, those who have high potential, smarts and intelligence, they’ll vote by lifting their legs to leave the country. We, Malaysians, regardless of race and religion, will be affected. The longer this goes, the worse it will get,” Syed Saddiq added.
