A 21-year-old non-Muslim Sarawakian student was recently slapped by an uncle for dining at a convenience store during Ramadan.
With the matter now under police investigation, many Malaysians took to social media to share their thoughts on the matter. Malaysian RTM news anchor, Rasyidah, who is well known for presenting news in fluent Mandarin also shared her two cents on the viral matter.

In her Instagram post, Rasyidah said that Ramadan is a month full of tests, which are meant for the person who fasts and not others.
In response to the viral incident, Rasyidah said even if the person who doesn’t fast is a Muslim, they should be confronted privately and not in public.
“If they refuse to take your advice, then report it to the relevant authorities. Resorting to violence is not the way,” Rasyidah said.
In her post, Rasyidah also shared that she was initially curious as to why many Chinese friends of hers avoid eating in front of her.
“If you are worried about affecting me, I will feel like you are underestimating my willpower,” she joked.
“My faith won’t be easily deterred by you eating in front of me, okay?”

However, Rasyidah said that if someone avoided eating in front of her during Ramadan as a sign of respect, she would be happy that she was taken seriously.
“But if it makes you feel uncomfortable, you don’t have to eat in front of me.”
Rasyidah added that according to her friends, those who had fasted, whether in school or public places forbade them to eat in public, so they dared not eat in front of people who were fasting.
“I have no comment because I was not there to witness the incident.”
At the end of her post, Rasyidah reminded those who are fasting not to get violent with those who eat in public.
“There’s really no need to put others down just to elevate yourself.”
