With the victims of Putra Heights still affected and looking for a temporary place to live in, an affected family, unfortunately, had to put up with an insensitive remark by a property agent while waiting for their permanent house to be rebuilt.

A Malaysian woman, Melissa, whose entire family was also affected by the blaze shared a screenshot of the conversation between her mum and a property agent, in which both parties agreed to view the house today (April 14) at 4 PM. However, it didn’t happen.
While looking for a rented place to live in, Melissa’s mum received a response that was targeted towards the Indian community.
“Sorry, the owner doesn’t prefer Indians as they do a lot of heavy cooking. The owner is worried that it would destroy the kitchen further.”

Unhappy and taken aback by the response, Melissa’s mother responded to the property agent with a lengthy message to call out the landlord’s racist response. To this, the agent replied and said the matter had nothing to do with race, and reminded her that pets are also not allowed into the property.

Melissa shared screenshots of the conversation with WORLD OF BUZZ and shared that the situation has been tough on the family as they navigate through the losses.
“It’ll take at least 1 year for the damaged houses to be rebuilt”
Melissa, who is currently staying at her relative’s house with her family temporarily, said that her house was just about 200 meters away from the explosion. Although her house is still standing, the major damages on the 2nd level of her house have rendered the place unlivable.
“The roof was mostly damaged, and our ceiling upstairs collapsed after it rained the following day.”
“Our cars are also partially melted, windows were shattered, there was water everywhere due to the burst pipes in our house,” Melissa said.

Melissa also told WORLD OF BUZZ that her family was told by the authorities that over 80 houses in the area will be rebuilt. However, she is unsure if her house is part of the rebuilding plan as her family is still waiting for an official letter about the matter.
“Regardless, we’re looking for at least one year of living elsewhere temporarily. If our house has to be rebuilt, then it will be longer.”
Melissa and her family are also not allowed to return to their house as the authorities deemed the structure of the place compromised due to the explosion, heat, and water damage.
