The Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court has fixed 16 January 2026 for the submission of the psychiatric report on the teenage boy charged with the murder of 16-year-old Yap Shing Xuen at a school in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, on 14 October 2025.

The date was set by Magistrate Amira Sariaty Zainal, who allowed the defence’s application for an extension to obtain the report from Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, Perak.

The psychiatric evaluation of the 14-year-old suspect in the fatal Bandar Utama school stabbing has been extended

BERNAMA quoted Kitson Foong, the accused’s lawyer, as saying that the court granted the extension of nearly one month as medical officers at the hospital required more time for a full assessment.

“This includes conducting interviews with the juvenile’s family members and a review of his behavioural history at home and school, with the assistance of the investigating officer,” Foong stated.

Foong spoke to reporters outside the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court today following the case mention, which was conducted behind closed doors as it involves a juvenile offender.

The lawyer added that the accused was absent from court today as he’s still undergoing the evaluation. He further stressed that the psychiatric report is critical in determining whether the accused can be deemed fit to make his plea before the High Court or even in setting a trial date.

“He is in good condition and showing positive signs in rehabilitation. He is responding well to treatment,” Foong revealed.

This will be the second extension of the psychiatric evaluation, as the court also allowed for a month-long extension on 21 November 2025.

No plea has been recorded from the accused

The accused was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which took place at a secondary school in Bandar Utama between 9:20 AM and 9:35 AM on 14 October.

However, no plea was recorded from the teenager as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court. The case was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Syed Ahmed Khabir Abdul Rahman.
