A married couple have been arrested after they were suspected of abusing their 12-year-old daughter at a condominium in Sungai Ara, Georgetown, Penang.
The suspects, who work as a program manager and an engineer, respectively, were detained following a police report that was made by their daughter’s school principal on Tuesday (May 20), according to Utusan Malaysia.

She was even locked inside a dog cage
Southwest District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam said the police received the report at around 11:57 AM after the school counsellor noticed bruises and injuries on the girl’s back.
Sazalee added that investigations revealed that the victim, a standard six student and the couple’s second child, had been caned on her back on Sunday (May 18).
According to the victim, she had told the school how she was frequently beaten and had even been locked in a dog cage by her 49-year-old and 47-year-old parents.

Sazalee added that investigations are currently underway, and that the victim is currently receiving treatment at Penang General Hospital (HPP).
He also said police have seized a cane from the suspects’ residence as evidence, and the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
