It seems as if we meet irresponsible drivers on the road almost every day, but when the irresponsibility goes too far, people could get seriously hurt. That’s what happened in Kuching, Sarawak when an ambulance transporting a pregnant woman was hit by a high speeding four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle.
The horrific accident occurred on the morning of February 26, as the ambulance was driving past a traffic light intersection, and the 4WD was speeding from Jalan Green. As reported by China Press, the impact of the collision caused the ambulance to overturn by the side of the road, and worse still, resulted in the pregnant woman suffering grave injuries to the head.
In live footage capturing the incident, it is evident that while most cars had slowed down from Jalan Green upon seeing the ambulance, the 4WD continued speeding regardless, and wound up crashing into the left of the ambulance. Apart from the pregnant victim, a nurse riding in the ambulance sustained light injuries to her cheek, according to The Star, while the ambulance driver and another nurse were uninjured. The driver of the 4WD, who is 74-years-old, also emerged unscathed.

Upon discovering the pregnant woman’s critical injuries, passersby and the nurses at the scene rushed to lend her a hand, and rushed her to Sarawak General Hospital’s emergency unit to seek treatment. Prior to the accident, she had been feeling unwell, which resulted in her family members calling the ambulance to transport her to the hospital.
Sarawak traffic investigation and enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu has stated that the case is currently in the process of being investigated.
We’re truly sorry for the passengers of the ambulance who were wounded, especially the pregnant woman! We would like to urge all drivers and motorcyclists to give way to ambulances when they’re heading your way; you never know who might be going through a life-or-death situation inside the vehicle!
