Afidzul Ariffin, or fondly known as Pak Long, started his journey from Kampar, Perak at around 4am on 6 December, with Dataran Merdeka on his mind. On his Facebook page, he constantly shares updates and information throughout his journey.
He began his journey with a prayer, as reported by Malaysiakini,
“Dear Allah, ease my journey and strengthen my resolve until I reach my destination. For the sake of your religion, and for the ummah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), I appeal to all of you to protect all the adherents who are heading to the same destination to defend your religion.”
His video was also shared by former Prime Minister, Najib Razak, who was touched by Pak Long’s effort and sacrifice.
Saya terharu melihat semangat saudara kita ini yang sanggup kayuh basikal dari Kampar untuk bersama-sama kami di Dataran Merdeka esok. Semoga dipermudahkan perjalanan. Kita jumpa esok!

Najib Razak said,
“I am touched by the spirit shown by Pak Long who is willing to ride his old bicycle all the way from Kampar just to be with us in Dataran Merdeka tomorrow. Let’s meet tomorrow!”
During his journey, Pak Long shared that he was also stopped by the police in Bidor, Perak because he was carrying a flag that was allegedly not allowed to be shown in public.
When asked why he cannot carry the flag around, the police informed him that the flag was similar to the flag of ISIS.
When he reached Serendah, Pak Long also shared that he almost collapsed because of the heat. He was looking for a place to buy water but there were no shops around. Fortunately, one of the followers of his page visited and gave him an isotonic drink and some bread. After a good rest, Pak Long continued his journey.
After all the obstacles and hardship, Pak Long has arrived safely in Dataran Merdeka and has joined the crowd who are having a peaceful Anti-ICERD rally. If you go through all his postings, you will notice that there was always a helping hand, willing to assist him to reach his goal. Malaysians always have each other’s backs!
