According to Seberang Prai District Police Chief, Superintendent Lee Chong Chern, the incident happened at 8.15am when the policemen on duty were monitoring criminal activities at that time.

Police have arrested two men aged 36 and 43 years for further examination.

“However, the 43-year-old suspect suddenly rushed into the Proton Perdana with the registration plate WGU 8193, to escape.

“The suspect then backed away from the car and crashed into a Lance Corporal on duty.”

“The incident caused injuries to his limbs, elbows, fingers of the left hand and the back of the body. A motorcycle also suffered damage to the headlights,” he said, today.

Chong Chern said a policeman had fired eight shots at the suspect’s car as a self-defence measure after his colleague got crashed.

He added that further examination at the scene led to the discovery of a small package containing syabu, believed to have been thrown by the suspect.

Apart from the main suspect, they also arrested a 39-year-old man who did not have a criminal record.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
