During the last weekend, the nation was shocked by the news that a man had attempted to shoot his wife at the Arrival Hall of KLIA 1.
Many were asking why the shooter was not apprehended on site and had managed to escape to Kota Bharu before getting arrested.
PDRM has taken actions to increase the security level in KLIA 1 and 2 by adding the number of officers there.
As of now, the airports’ security controls involve officers from the KLIA district police headquarters, the General Operations Force (GOF), and the Internal Security and Public Order Department.
According to BERNAMA, PDRM stated that 23 officers and personnel are stationed at Terminal 1 and 14 officers and personnel at Terminal 2; they are on a three-shift daily rotation with prowler assignments at eight entry and exit points at the departure and arrival halls of both terminals.
“Two KLIA district police headquarters personnel are stationed at every level, including the arrival area at the third floor and the departure area at the fifth floor of Terminal 1, and personnel will be in full uniform armed with HK MP5 submachine guns.”
Other than that, the General Operations Force will also be in full gear, body gear, and armed with their primary and secondary weapons.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain says that boosting the security at KLIA 1 and 2 is a form of commitment by PDRM.
“The rise in security controls and patrols is a form of commitment by the police force in facing any possibilities and to ensure the safety and public order at key entry points into Malaysia.”
Well, this will certainly make the airports safer. What do you think about this? Let us know in the comments.
