Scammers and hackers are getting more notorious as time passes. Regardless of the victims’ status and identity, the perpetrators do not care about the consequences that might follow. This means that ANYONE can be a victim of identity theft.
Just this evening (August 8), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri took to this Twitter account to reveal that he fell prey to hackers on Telegram. According to his tweet at 4:30pm, Sabri’s personal Telegram account has been hacked by irresponsible parties.
‘Please report to the authorities and do ignore any messages received from my Telegram account,’ Sabri reminded the people.
Who knew the hackers have the guts to ‘touch’ the Malaysian Prime Minister?
Next level kind of scam
The Prime Minister’s tweet immediately caught the attention of fellow Malaysians, and they had a lot to say about the incident as most of them found the situation hilarious.
‘This is the next level. Even a scammer himself gets scammed,’ said a netizen.
Another user has pointed out that it’s pointless for Sabri to inform the netizens as most do not have his personal contact number. ‘Dato Seri, just tell your circle of friends on Telegram. Most of us don’t even have your number. If we do, we would’ve scolded you directly.’
Another user pointed his finger towards the poor administration of the Prime Minister.
‘You can’t even look after your Telegram account, how are you going to handle the country?’
In the meantime, more sarcastic comments surfaced.
‘How did you get hacked? Did you log into your account in a cyber cafe?’
‘Did he leave his phone at the Mamak shop,” asked another user.
Jokes aside, if you do receive any notifications from the Prime Minister, chances are that this is a case of identity theft and that they are possibly reaching out to you to ask for money, similarly to Zahid Hamidi’s experience in the past.
Do make sure the security of your social media accounts is updated and always be alert!
