Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced the dissolution of Parliament in a press conference today (October 10).
He shared that, despite the dissolution of Parliament, the General Elections (GE15) may not happen so soon as some states are not ready to dissolve their state assembly.
“In accordance with Article 40(2)(b) and Article 55(2) of the Federal Constitution, His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong, has acted in accordance with His Majesty’s discretion to approve my request, so that the 14th Parliament is dissolved today, Monday October 10, 2022,” he said.
He added at the General Elections should take place simultaneously to save cost and to ensure the process is smooth.
“Meanwhile, setting the dates of the naming of candidates, and voting and other related affairs, is subjected to the Election Commission of Malaysia (SPR),” he added.
He also took the time to thank the royal families in Malaysia as well as the people for having him as the Prime Minister, especially when he took on the role during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
This comes after Ismail Sabri met with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Sunday (October 9) to request for consent to dissolve Parliament, just before his Highness flew off to London to visit the King of Britain, King Charles III.
