Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pakatan Harapan leaders upon agreement on political cooperation between the two blocs.
A statement posted by Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa reads, “Today we once again took the time to refine the understanding between the Government and Pakatan Harapan. God willing, tomorrow a memorandum of understanding that will change the country’s political landscape and will be signed at 5pm in Parliament.”
The statement said, “After several rounds of discussion, representatives from the Government and Pakatan Harapan have agreed on a memorandum of understanding.”
“All of the parties have agreed that this MoU is to ensure political stability in order to address the Covid-19 threat and the need for economic recovery.”
“With this understanding, focus and priority will be given by both parties to a new political landscape through initiatives to transform and renew the government’s administration, particularly to strengthen the function of Parliament.”
“Both parties have also agreed to fully disclose the memorandum of understanding to the public as a commitment towards full openness and accountability.”
The statement said that the agreement will be signed at 5pm, 13 September, in Parliament, and those attending are Ismail Sabri as well as PH party leaders Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (PKR), Lim Guan Eng (DAP), Mohamad Sabu (Amanah), and Datuk Seri Madius Tangau (Upko).
Representing the government at the meeting were Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Law Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz, Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa and Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
Pakatan Harapan was represented by PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Amanah Deputy President Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, DAP Organising Secretary Loke Siew Fook, DAP Deputy Chairman Gobind Singh Deo, PKR Information Chief Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin and PKR Communications Director Fahmi Fadzil.
The statement came after representatives from both sides reportedly held a closed-door meeting in Kuala Lumpur.
Although no specific details were mentioned, it is reported that the complete details of their agreement are set to be revealed after the signing.
