The flash floods in the eastern states of Malaysia, especially Kelantan & Terengganu is not getting any better as the number of affected victims continues to increase.
Fortunately, the financial aid did not stop with the Selangor government as the Prime Minister just announced that the unity government has allocated an immediate cash aid of RM100 million to the flood victims in Kelantan & Terengganu.
The matter was shared in his Instagram post last night (December 21), where Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed that he had visited the flood victims at one of the temporary evacuation centers (PPS) in Pasir Mas, Kelantan.
Here’s how much the flood victims in both states will receive:
- RM1,000 to every head of household that is affected by the flood,
- Rm10,000 to every family that has a death in the house due to the flood.
The government also assured that Phase 1 & Phase 2 of the Golok River Integrated Basin Development (PLSB) project in Kelantan will be accelerated without excessive costs.
“The Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) needs to immediately send a report on the Sungai Golok PLSB to the Ministry of Finance (MOF) before the tender is opened,” said the PM.
Anwar also clarified that the RM100 million cash aid was approved immediately, with RM50 million to go to the victims in Kelantan, and the remaining to be given to the victims in Terengganu.
The financial aid was greenlit immediately as Anwar said the flood in both states is more severe than in previous years.
We hope that the financial aid will ease the burden of the flood victims in both states, and hopefully, the flood water will recede soon so that victims in the PPS can return home.
