If you’re a Malaysian driver, you’ve most probably familiar with the frustration of having to reverse your car at a TNG toll booth when the driver in front forgets that they have insufficient balance in their Touch N’ Go cards. Maybe you’ve even been that driver once or twice yourself.

And while it’s not uncommon to forget to reload your Touch n’ Go, it does create unnecessary traffic and could be dangerous to oncoming drivers approaching the toll.

Recently, a Facebook netizen shared advice from PLUS toll authorities who insist that you don’t have to go through the hassle of reversing your car and going to the reload toll line if you’re caught in a tight situation. In fact, it directly violates their code of conduct!

Pihak PLUS bagi beritahu, jika kita exit tol dan tiba-tiba baki tak cukup, kita perlu tekan button intercom dan tunggu…

According to a netizen’s post in Facebook group, Penang Kini, “PLUS authorities have informed us that we (drivers) need to press the intercom button and wait for a runner to attend to you if you don’t have enough Touch n’ Go balance. The runner will help you top up your TNG card accordingly.”

“The PLUS officers advise all road users to avoid putting their lives at risk by jumping from lane to lane. This directly goes against the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) of PLUS.”

“If the cars behind you get angry and start pressing their horn, just remain calm until a runner attends to you. Again, don’t get out of your car to top up at another toll booth.

The netizen went on to say that PLUS authorities specified how “runners who tell drivers to jump lanes and head to the reload toll booths themselves are directly violating PLUS’ SOP and drivers are advised to report these incidents immediately.”

“PLUS themselves acknowledge how there are many situations in which it is impossible for drivers to leave their cars. For example, if these drivers were  OKU citizens, pregnant women or drivers with babies in their cars.”

“So after this, if you have insufficient balance, just press the intercom button and wait for a runner to respond to you.”

“While it’s better to always have enough Touch n’ Go balance, this cannot always be avoided. Sometimes your balance is only insufficient when you leave the toll.”

The netizen also took the time to advise drivers to be more considerate towards each other.

“Don’t get angry and press your horn loudly when you see that a driver has insufficient balance. Their day is already challenging. Maybe one day, it could be you in that situation.”

So remember, the next time you have insufficient balance, just press the intercom and wait patiently. Share this article to inform your friends and family!
