A Malaysian Indian woman and her baby sought shelter at a surau in Alor Setar, Kedah, as she went through a family crisis. She was discovered by one of the committee members of the Muslim worship house, and she had only one request for the man.
“Please don’t chase me away,” the woman pleaded.
Her anxiety was fortunately eased when the said committee member of the surau, Shamsul Anuar Aziz, calmed her down and allowed her to stay there.

Shamsul said after performing his prayer, he noticed the woman was wandering around outside the mosque, and from what he could deduce, the woman looked nervous. Her facial expressions made it obvious that she was battling a problem.
Shamsul then brought along three other members of the Surau to look for the woman, who was hiding behind a car in a dark area. After Shamsul convinced the woman that he merely wanted to help and invited her back into the mosque, she finally shared her side of the story.
Her husband is behind bars, and she’s struggling financially
The woman said that she had too much on her plate as she is currently going through family and financial issues. Her husband is currently serving a prison sentence for an undisclosed offence, and she did not have enough cash.
She also said that she ran away from her friend’s house because she felt unsafe.
The baby she was carrying was wrapped only in a yellow towel because she couldn’t afford diapers for her.

The members of the Surau immediately went out to purchase some diapers, milk, and food for the pair. The woman, who is in her early 20s, said that she has a brother in Penang, to which Shamsul immediately bought an ETS Train ticket for her, so that she could get home.
Shamsul also personally sent her to the train station to make sure she boarded the train.

“We’re just glad to be helping”
In a report by Harian Metro, Shamsul said that it was his first time handling such a matter, but he was grateful to be given an opportunity to aid the woman in distress and learn the value of humanity.
“The woman thanked us many times before she left for Penang.”
“Regardless of race and religion, what matters is their safety.”
