The residents of Taman Desa, Kuala Lumpur, are urging Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh to save two plots of land, one that houses a playground and the other designated for a police station, from being developed into high-rise condominiums.
Taking to social media, Protect Taman Desa made their plea to the Minister while also sharing updates regarding the plots of land, where the playground has reportedly been demolished, allegedly by the developer of the high-rise condominiums.

Taman Desa residents urge Hannah Yeoh to save their neighbourhood from developers
In one post, they wrote, “Think about it, an already mature neighbourhood with buckling infrastructure, traffic jams, double parking, gridlock rush hour traffic without the Taman (neighbourhood) itself, and we’re adding two more condos while taking away two public lands at the same time.”
“What is the point of buying into a nice neighbourhood if a few years later, it becomes someone else’s land-grabbing backyard? This isn’t a problem restricted within Taman Desa; it concerns all of us, and the trampling of our voices.”

They appealed to Yeoh to assist them in stopping the development, not just because she was appointed Federal Territories Minister, but also due to her efforts in saving TTDI’s Taman Rimba Kiara from development.
During that time, Yeoh had shared, “Taman Rimba Kiara at the Federal Court – We WON today for its preservation as a public park! A battle that has taken us more than 5 years. For me, this is also a battle against the might of those with deep pockets, and we prevailed.”
The Taman Desa residents are hoping that Yeoh can assist in saving their neighbourhood from the development of the high-rise condominiums, just as she had saved Taman Rimba Kiara from development.
How the general public can assist the residents of Taman Desa

Not only have the residents of Taman Desa confirmed their rejection of the development through a vote that was held at a night market, where 38 people voted no to the development and no one voted yes, but they have also been contributing to a fund that goes towards legal battles against the developer.

“The recent news that a developer in Taman Desa has won their appeal to resume construction of a certain condo has rattled many, but do we do nothing and complain? Make a stand and be heard. Fight back. If you don’t fight for what you believe in, you will always lose.”
“Please donate to our legal fund to stop the development of 2 more high-rise condos on our public amenity lands. Remember, together, we are strong,” they added.
