Last year, a stabbing incident made headlines when Yap Shing Xuen, a female student at a school in Petaling Jaya, was fatally attacked by a Form 2 male student on 14 October.
As previously reported, the suspect, who was 14 at the time, was arrested by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), who also seized a “Scout knife” at the scene.

The accused pleads not guilty to murder
In a recent development, the accused pleaded not guilty at the High Court today to the charge of murdering the 16-year-old female student in the restroom of a secondary school in Bandar Utama.
According to Harian Metro, he entered the plea after the charge was read to him in Mandarin before Judge Adlin Abdul Majid.
The charge states that the teenager is accused of killing the student at a national secondary school in Bandar Utama between 9:20 AM and 9:35 AM on 14 October 2025.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which typically carries the death penalty or a prison sentence of 30 to 40 years, along with up to 12 strokes of the cane.
However, under Section 97(1) of the Child Act 2001, the death penalty cannot be imposed on individuals under the age of 18. Instead, the court must order the individual to be detained at the pleasure of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan, or Governor, as per Section 97(2) of the same Act.
Trial set for July next year
The accused is represented by lawyer Kitson Foong, while the prosecution is led by Deputy Public Prosecutors Aqharie Durranie Aziz and Zamriah Zarifah Aris.
Kitson stated that after the charge was read, his client pleaded not guilty and requested a trial. The trial is expected to commence in July next year and is slated to last for approximately two weeks.
“The court has set 6 March for the next case management session, during which specific trial dates will be scheduled,” he explained.
He also noted that the trial will be closed to the general public, with only the legal teams and authorised observers present. Observer lawyers from the Malaysian Bar Council and the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) will be permitted to attend.
“Observer lawyers representing the victim’s family were not allowed, as family members may be called to testify as witnesses,” Kitson added.
