Taking to social media, a counselor with the Pusat Pemulihan Penagihan Narkotik – Puspen Kuching, shared a heart-wrenching story that took the internet by storm.

In her story, which was updated three days ago, began with her recollection of what took place when she was out and about with her son, coming face-to-face with a former patient under her care.

“He is not crazy, but is somebody special.”

“Last week, as I took my son out to enjoy nature and to play with a bit of rain, I visited a nearby convenient store.”

“As I was about to leave the store, a homeless person sat right beside the exit and I thought to myself how hard his life might have been having to live like that.”

Just as she was about to leave, the man noticed her and gave her a smile, before calling out her name.

“Puan! Do you still remember me? You are so thin now. When I last met you, you were pregnant.”

At this moment, the counselor left her son and goods in the car and approached the said man.

With people in the area warning her that the man she was about to approach was mentally disturbed, she realised that the person she was talking to was actually someone she remembered.

“I can’t believe you still remember me. Where do you live now? Do you have a job?”

The man replied: “Both my parents have passed away. My house is no longer mine, so I live just right under these stairs. I have no job, but I no longer do drugs.”

In her status, she wrote how saddened she was looking at his condition, becoming a victim of drugs and left fending for himself due to his mental health condition.

She asked the man of his well-being before he requested to take a selfie with his former counselor.

“Can I take your picture? Using your handphone because I don’t have one. I want you to keep a picture of me, so that you don’t forget.”

When asked what he was holding, the man replied: “This is a toy I made. It stays with me wherever I go.”
