Yesterday, UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh thanked party president Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for his openness to reviewing political cooperation, following several motions raised at the recent UMNO Youth Special Convention.
In a Facebook post, Dr Akmal proposed that the party begin by exploring ways to strengthen unity within the Malay community, beginning with the two largest Malay parties, UMNO and PAS. However, Zahid rejected any motion to undermine the current government, which contradicts Dr Akmal’s proposal for UMNO to leave the administration.

Following this, Dr Akmal hinted at the possibility of stepping down, saying he had delivered his efforts and struggles in his political journey and had done his utmost.
In his statement, he explained that he had done everything possible to ensure the views and concerns of party members were heard.
“We’ve tried our best, and we have delivered our best. Any shortcomings are likely my own. Perhaps it’s time to step down,” he stated.

Dr Akmal added that the struggle, “driven by good intentions for religion, race, and country,” would continue even in his absence. He also expressed his gratitude to supporters for standing by him.
The UMNO Youth Chief remarked, “Thank you for all your voices and support for this struggle. I believe that as long as our intentions are sincere for religion, race, and country, God willing, the right time will come.”
