How disgusting!
In a recent report by The Star, the uncle of the recently deceased Penang teenager T. Nhaveen has announced that the family has not sent out a message asking for donations following his passing.
In the wake of the teenager’s tragic death yesterday evening (15th June), a message has been going viral online, claiming that the family needed donations during this hard time.
The message even included a CIMB bank account number under the name Shanmugam Mahalingam. Part of the message reads,
“…kindly and lovingly donate some money as our token of compensation for our late dear brother and friend Navi (Nhaveen) who passed away today, Thursday 15th June, 2017.”
“You can donate to the account above. Please give wholeheartedly. This collection shall be our humble offering to his family.”
Nhaveen’s uncle, R. Thiyagarajan said he was surprised to see such a message beginning to circulate all over social media. He told reporters outside Penang Hospital’s mortuary,
“I want to stress that we are not asking for any monetary aid.”
“I hope people will respect us and give us space in this trying time.”
The tragic death of Nhaveen shook the nation last night, causing an outpouring of support and sympathy from Malaysian netizens. Even Prime Minister Najib Razak tweeted his support last night.
Nhaveen was brutally assaulted this past weekend by five teenagers. They were his former schoolmates who used to bully him for being ‘effeminate’.
The assault left the teenager with a burned back, head and hip injuries, internal bleeding and even an injured anus, which led police to believe that he was sodomised with a blunt object.
Nhaveen eventually succumbed to his injuries and passed away yesterday at Penang Hospital’s ICU at 5.31pm.
Now, authorities have reclassified the current investigation to murder following his death.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of Nhaveen. We hope justice will be served.
