Despite experiencing heartbreak after missing out on the bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Malaysian women’s doubles shuttlers Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah have ended their two-year title drought by winning the Hong Kong Open.
World No. 8 Pearly-Thinaah sensationally beat China’s world No. 3 Liu Shengshu-Tan Ning in the final, which took just 38 minutes, to win by 21-14, 21-14.
This was the pair’s first title win since they captured the 2022 French Open in Paris. The duo created history by becoming the first Malaysians in the women’s doubles to win the Hong Kong Open crown.
Following their victory, Thinaah said, “Just over two weeks ago, we reached the Korea Open final but couldn’t bring home a Merdeka gift for Malaysia.”
“I’m grateful that God gave us another chance, and this title is definitely a gift for Malaysia. Happy Malaysia Day, and thank you to all the fans who supported us today.”
Congratulations to the two of them!
