Personnel of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have been getting bad reps recently due to the actions of a few bad apples besmirching the integrity of the badge by asking for gratification from foreigners in return for turning a blind eye to offences on the road.

Previously, a traffic policeman asked a British couple travelling across Malaysia for RM100 to “settle” a summon in Perak. Afterwards, another incident was also unearthed by netizens, this time taking place in Langkawi where another policeman was caught on camera offering a similar “discount”.

With that in mind, another viral video circulating on social media shows the exact opposite of the 2 aforementioned incidents and helps restore the trust Malaysians have towards the uniform body.

Shared by MYNEWSHUB on X, a 13-second video recorded by a policeman showed how a driver tried to bribe him with money after the former was pulled over for an undisclosed offence by the latter.

In the captions, MYNEWSHUB asserted,

“Usually members of the public are the ones recording the police but this time around, the police are recording a member of the public trying to give money to the police! Ha3.”

At the start of the video, the policeman can be seen recording his patrol motorcycle parked by the side of the road before panning to a yellow Volkswagen Beetle parked in front of it which he pulled over.

The driver of the pulled-over is then visible, though the conversation prior to the start of the video was unknown. What is heard is the policeman saying,

“Ha! Trying to offer me money? This guy is trying to offer me money (as a bribe).”

The policeman then recorded the front of the vehicle to show its plate number.

In the replies to the X post, many Malaysians praised the police officer for his integrity and said that other PDRM personnel should follow the officer’s example.

One commenter said that the policeman is the kind of law enforcer that Malaysians want and not those recently arrested for a flurry of criminal offences.

Meanwhile, another commenter said that the video and the 2 previous viral videos involving foreigners are proof that law enforcers should have body cams on them.

So, what do you guys think of the video? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
