Although the rise of the internet and social media has brought about plenty of benefits, it has also allowed crime to thrive even further.
Unfortunately, one of the most problematic issues that exists is the spreading of child pornography.
It was recently reported that a Malaysian man was arrested in Klang after being found in possession of child pornography during a raid at his home in Klang, Selangor.
In a statement released by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), the raid was carried out by the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) Sexual, Women and Children Crime Investigation Division (D11).
PDRM secretary Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said police raided the 39-year-old suspect’s house and found a large amount of child pornography in the man’s computer.
Following that, the police confiscated the suspect’s computer, external hard drive, router and mobile phone in the raid.
Noorsiah said the investigation found that the suspect had communicated with child victims and downloaded child pornography using social media.
She said the success of this arrest is the result of cooperation between PDRM and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The suspect is being remanded for 4 days starting yesterday until December 17 for further investigation under Section 10 of the Sexual Offenses Against Children Act 2017 and Section 292 of the Penal Code.
Offenders may be jailed for up to 3 years, fined or both upon conviction.
Further investigation is still ongoing to identify the victims involved in the case.
