The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has revealed that the driver of a vehicle for a Johor State Government Executive Committee (Exco) chairman has been issued a ticket for using the emergency lane to avoid traffic congestion.  This is following a video of the vehicle illegally using the emergency lane that went viral online to the dismay of netizens.

As reported by Bernama, Batu Pahat district police chief ACP Ismail Dollah asserted that the driver of the black Toyota Camry was called to the district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at 3.30pm yesterday to record his statement for the offence. The vehicle was identified as being reserved for the use of the Johor State Health and Unity Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon.

Ismail Dollah in a statement said that the case is being investigated under Rule 6(1) of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 and further elaborated,

“Investigations revealed that the offence took place at Jalan Tongkang Pechah here at 9.45pm on Monday (Sept 12). Further checks revealed that the vehicle belonging to the Johor State Secretary’s Office was reserved for Yong Peng state assemblyman Ling Tian Soon,”

The 24-second video showed the vehicle using the emergency lane to skip the queue during traffic congestion in Jalan Tongkang Pechah in Batu Pahat on 14 September 2022.
