The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain revealed that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) received a total of 94 police reports over allegations that identity cards have been misused by other individuals to cast votes.
In a Facebook post, PDRM asserted that the 42 police reports were lodged in the six states holding their state elections (PRN) as of 6pm yesterday. Afterwards in an update today, he said that a total of 94 reports of alleged misuse of identity cards were received.
These include 48 reports in Selangor, 20 in Penang, 9 in Kedah, 9, 9 in Terengganu, 6 in Negeri Sembilan and 2 in Kelantan.
Accordingly, the cases are being investigated under Section 7 of the Election Offences Act 1954, with the police set to call witnesses and complainants soon to complete investigation papers.
The IGP asserted,
“A total of 111 investigation papers were opened out of 181 reports involving various offences received on the polling day.”
Besides that, Razarudin also revealed that a total of 1,951 reports involving various offences were lodged during the campaigning period. These include damaging the flags of political parties, displaying political logos in the vicinity of polling centres, obstruction of civil servants from discharging their duties and illegal assembly.
