In a recent statement published by the Malaysian Islamic Party’s (PAS) news outlet, Harakah Daily, the party’s Youth Chief Ustaz Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi stated that PAS Youth will be holding a nationwide protest against Pakatan Harapan (PH). The rally, called ‘Hit & Run Derita Rakyat‘ will be held at 10pm on New Year’s Eve (31st December 2018).
An excerpt from the statement penned by the PAS Youth chief reads,
“After the PH government, who won the people’s vote to free the rakyat from Barisan Nasional’s (BN) regime by proposing various agendas promising change, it is clear after 8 months of their rule that everything was a lie. Many promises were broken despite them being stated in their manifesto, but they gave excuses to mock the rakyat.”
” ‘Harapan‘ (hope) was destroyed after the Budget 2018 was presented by the PH government, which does not benefit the rakyat in any way. Many of the provisions that have been allocated to the poor, low-income groups, students, farmers, fishermen, and others have either been cut or eliminated altogether. Instead, initiatives have been set aside to continue benefitting the rich.”
“Many important national projects have either been delayed or cancelled, and many assets are being sold at manipulated, miscalculated, or polemical rates. Their move to abolish the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and reintroduce the Sales and Services Tax (SST) has not shown any tangible effect. Now, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), as well as inflation rates, continue to reach record highs, continuing to weaken consumer buying power.”
Muhammad Khalil also referred to the PH government’s initiative to increase the minimum wage, calling it a failure, also bringing up the proposed PTPTN loan repayment system involving mandatory salary deductions.
“All of these issues are part of the endless episode of the rakyat‘s suffering, and they have not found a perfect solution. The PH government not only lacks the political will to resolve past problems, but also the ideas to spur change in the future. Therefore, this suffering must be challenged across the nation. A message must be delivered to PH as a signal from the rakyat.”
The PAS Youth chief ended his statement announcing that the ‘Hit & Run Derita Rakyat’ rally will be held across all states on Monday (31st December), with the main gathering at Kompleks Sogo, Kuala Lumpur at 10pm.
