It’s scary how even with safety measures in place, young children are still exposed to so much danger!
Earlier this week, a video of a two-year-old boy from China who nearly drowned to death in a swimming pool despite wearing a flotation device started to circulate online.
CCTV footage shows the little boy playing in a local swimming pool centre while wearing an inflatable ring to keep him afloat in the water. At the beginning of the video, things seemed perfectly fine.
However, not long after an adult supervisor leaves the room, the toddler tipped forward and ended up getting his head stuck underwater with his legs up in the air!
Two adults can be seen on the other side of a glass wall, completely oblivious to what was going on in the pool.
The poor child had his head stuck underwater for 72 seconds and his movements began to slow down the longer he was stuck.
Fortunately, just when the toddler’s legs stopped moving, one of the two adults standing outside the glass wall finally noticed the boy and immediately rushed over to pull him out.
Thankfully, the young boy survived and is now safe, according to Sina News.
The video understandably sparked nationwide outrage among Chinese netizens, many of them asking where his parents were when the whole incident transpired.
According to the Shanghaiist, the swimming pool centre is currently negotiating with the toddler’s parents.
This should be a lesson for all parents to always supervise their children when they’re in swimming pools, even if they’re wearing safety gear!
