Unemployment is on a high lately, but Malaysians have not given up just yet as they are working odd jobs that aren’t in their field of studies to overcome being jobless. And, to put a positive spin on their plight, they have decided to give new “professional” names to their odd jobs.
A viral thread which was started on Twitter by a netizen who recently got a job as a Foodpanda delivery boy now has over 14,900 retweets and more than 17,000 likes. The netizen, Eskopi shared in his tweet,
“I took five years to complete a degree in Aircraft Engineering. Alhamdulilah, I am now a Food Distribution Engineer (aka food delivery boy).”
“At least, I got to be an engineer, even though it isn’t in the same field I studied.”
Eskopi’s attitude towards his job was lauded by the netizens, and they too started sharing about their odd jobs in a thread. One netizen said that Eskopi isn’t alone because he has been a Fluid Distributor Engineer (meaning: someone who sells drinks) for two years.
Following that, another netizen shared that he has a Diploma in Geomatic Science and a Degree in Quantity Surveying. He thought he could have gotten the title of Sr (Senior) but instead, he is now a SA (Sales Advisor).
Meanwhile, one person revealed that he has a Malaysian Skills Certificate for Electronics Technology but now, works as a security guard at AEON Mall Seri Mahjung, Perak. Similarly, another person said that he is a successful Western Digital guard despite having a degree in TESL.
Meanwhile, one guy shared that he has done four years of mechanical engineering, and he has now made it as a Pandora jewellery sales engineer.
Their attitudes are just amazing!
Responses in the thread show that many Malaysians aren’t ashamed of their odd jobs even though it’s not in the field that they studied for. We hope that their attitude towards life doesn’t change and hopefully, they will get the job of their dreams in the near future. Till then, Godspeed to them.
