For durian lovers, the opportunity to enjoy Musang King is always welcomed but recently, somebody has misused the love that Malaysians have towards the king of fruits by using it to scam people for their money. In this case, the stink does not come from the fruit, but from the scammers.
The Musang King investment plan had promised low investments with high returns and managed to con 155 victims with a total of RM3.1 million over the past four months.
The Sabah police commissioner, Datuk Omar Mammah told The Star that, each victim is given a choice to invest between RM350 to RM6,000 with a promise of getting more than double the amount over 66 days. He added,
“This is promoted widely on social media including Facebook and WhatsApp since August and went active in September.”
The scam was detected after a victim in Melaka made a report after realizing he has been duped by a suspect there. The victim has paid RM8,400 but has not received any returns at all.
After the report was made, investigations were done and 5 suspects have been arrested so far, four in Kota Kinabalu and one in Selangor. Omar elaborated,
“Among the four, one has a previous drug-related criminal record and is a wanted man in peninsula Malaysia.”
The police believe that more victims will step forward to make a report about the case.

And remember this simple advice by Ringgit Oh Ringgit to avoid investment scams and bad decisions:
“If anything promises returns of 10% or more a YEAR, research the heck out of it. The only ‘safe’ investment are low-risk investments. If you do medium or risk investments, only invest what you can afford to lose.“
