Shared to us by a local Kuantan resident named Carl Min Yuen, the evening skies of his home city look as if it’s a gateway to another realm with colourful rainbow-like auras exuding from the clouds!
Scientifically referred to as Circumhorizontal Arc or more colloquially called ‘Fire Rainbow’, this is a very rare phenomenon, especially in this part of the world! Carl even managed to record a video of the ‘Fire Rainbow’ lighting up the skies here:

Absolutely stunning! According to ZME Science, Circumhorizontal Arc is an optical phenomenon formed by sunlight being refracted by the ice crystals found inside cirrus clouds. It doesn’t matter how big or small these crystals are, the only important thing is that it has the correct orientation. This means that the light from the sun needs to shine through a very specific crystal in the clouds at a very specific angle, hence why encountering this optical phenomenon is very rare!
Well, we’re absolutely lucky that Carl managed to snap photos and videos of this phenomenon then!
