Taking to Twitter, Batu Gajah Parliamentarian @Sivatronoh, shared a video of his recent visit to ADTEC, interviewing a female student who majored in the usually male dominated profession of welding.
In his tweet, he writes: “It is not everyday that you see a female taking up welding, a profession dominated by males.”
Here is a video of his discussion with Siti Nur Suhaila.
She shared that, it is not that women cannot do what men can do. With ample support they can do anything.
She adds that her inspiration to take up welding came after witnessing an ad that featured a female underwater welder, which in turn made her feel that she should take up the challenge.
“At first, when I began, things were tough, because I was the only female and the job required handling hazardous materials.”
“It took me a month or two, but I managed to master it in the end.”
When asked about what she had to say to those interested in pursuing make dominated jobs, Siti Nur Suhaila shared: “I want to tell them that women can do tough jobs like welding, it comes down to how much you want it.”
“You need to be confident when pursuing a career like this.”
Let’s hope that this video, will inspire more women to pursue male-dominated careers here in Malaysia.
