2 months prior to its release, the upcoming local horror film, Pulau has already received many criticisms following the reveal of its trailer a few days back.
Local preacher, PU Syed is not the only one who is against the release of the film but many Malaysians have also expressed dissatisfaction towards the film, particularly on social media. One of the actors in the film, Ikmal Amry is aware of the massive criticisms, and he has a message to fellow haters out there.
“You don’t like it? Don’t watch it”
During a recent media conference, Ikmal said that no one has ever forced viewers who hate the trailer to pay and watch it at the cinema. He said that audiences are free to choose their desired genre of movies to watch without needing to judge and criticise a film.
“There is a lot of YouTube videos with similar steamy scenes. If you leave a comment, it means you chose to watch it,” he added.
He then said, “If you don’t like it, then I suggest you don’t watch it. But don’t judge me for something that I’ve never done (steamy scenes),” reported Kosmo.
In response to the controversial racy scenes which include local model, Ms Pui Yi, Ikmal said that he was not involved in any of the scenes during the production of Pulau, which was shot in Langkawi last year.
For Ikmal’s part, he only takes off his shirt when necessary, according to the script.
“I’m a married man. I try to avoid those scenes. But I only took my shirt off to swim,” he clarified.
“Still not a fan? Then keep quiet about it”
Pulau is slated for a release in Malaysian theatres on March 9, less than 2 months from now. As many viewers have urged the Film Censorship Board of Malaysia to filter the necessary scenes, Ikmal has another reminder for the potential audiences.
“If you like it, then spread positive feedbacks. If you don’t like it, then just keep quiet,” he said.
Pulau stars Amelia Henderson and Alif Satar in the leading roles and is co-starred by Wan Hanafi Su, Nam Ron, Vikram, Ms Pui Yi, Mark O’Dea and other local influencers.
Fellow movie enthusiasts, do you think Pulau will perform well at the box office? Do you think it’s necessary to filter some scenes out, or should we leave the creativity alone?
