As the brand new year arrives, new policies set by the government start to take effect and one of the most highly anticipated ones are the closing of the Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau toll plazas. Happy new year!
According to NST, after 24 years, these two toll plazas have finally ceased operations, much to the joy of many Shah Alam and Klang residents. At the stroke of midnight on 31 December, a closing ceremony was held at the Sungai Rasau toll plaza where Selangor Barisan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar led the event.
Hundreds of happy motorists waited as the clock struck 12. The toll barriers were then lifted and they could finally pass through without paying. It is expected that these initiative is able to help more than 270,000 Shah Alam and Klang residents.
In a speech, Noh said the end of the toll collection of the plazas was proof “that Barisan Nasional cares for the rakyat’s well-being.”
He added, “This will ease the burden of residents who ply this highway. Before this, they had to pay a total of RM2.10 each way for both tolls. Starting tonight, the abolishment of these tolls would at the very least lessen the cost of living for the people of Shah Alam, Klang, and those around the area. I want to make it clear today that this success was made possible thanks to the efforts of BN from Shah Alam and its vicinity.”
Noh said that BN has always been fighting for the rakyat and mentioned that the Opposition was only riding on the political mileage from all that BN has done for the people. #syukurlah He said, “During Tun Mahathir’s era, he built these tolls but it is during Datuk Seri Najib’s time that these tolls are abolished.”
Well, politics aside, the Shah Alam and Klang residents will definitely be happy!
