So, on Tuesday, Kuala Lumpur experienced a major downpour during the evening and caused the water levels to rise rapidly.
Because of this issue, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) announced that they would be closing the Smart Tunnel to help with draining the water.
The tunnel was closed at 5.00pm, generally when the evening rush hour starts. The Star posted this article on their Facebook page yesterday which caused many netizens to slam DBKL for closing the tunnel as it helped to reduce the traffic congestion.
“Indeed, it’s a very smart tunnel. It closes when it rains!!!”
“Haha…so smart EVERYTIME when rain FOR SURE it’s CLOSED !!!”
“Omg…ain’t so smart after all.”
But these commenters forgot that the main purpose of Smart Tunnel is to divert floodwater away from major roads, and therefore they need to close it.
Other netizens quickly came out and schooled these clueless commenters, saying things like,
“”A failure project” oh my godness, how dumb can you be? The tunnel was designed to be used during heavy rain, thus the news was reported to inform the public of the closure.”
While others (like me) grabbed their popcorn and were just there for the fun.
“I’m here to read all the comments. After work entertainment.”
“Same here bro.. With ice cream as well.”
Lesson learned! Do remember to check your facts and do some research before simply commenting on the internet!
