A sharing on social media by a certified counsellor specialising in lactation and breastfeeding caught the attention of Malaysians recently, showing the paradigm shift among young married men in learning to become better husbands and parents for their families.
In an X post, the counsellor, Nad Masrom shared a video with snippets from a breastfeeding seminar she hosted where men were active participants, learning alongside their spouses about breastfeeding.
In the caption, she wrote,
“Many fathers are no longer embarrassed to join breastfeeding classes. Awesome! Hopefully, 2024 will be a new beginning for more young fathers.”
In the 52-second video, Nad Masrom shared how more married men in the country are beginning to attend breastfeeding classes because they realise they have the responsibility as their wife’s first breastfeeding helper at home.
She added that these men are taking responsibility as a husband and as a father, trying their best to support their wives.
The counsellor further asserted,
“These fathers are not embarrassed to come and learn. When they come to these breastfeeding classes, they volunteer to learn the proper way to breastfeed, hold a baby and calm a baby.”
“They put aside any embarrassment they have for their children’s sake.”

In the replies to the X post, many Malaysians praised these men for breaking stereotypes and for making the effort to learn to become a better father and husband.
One commenter said that such breastfeeding classes should become the norm in our country.
Meanwhile, another commenter hoped that more fathers would realise the importance of having knowledge regarding breastfeeding and be willing to learn from these sorts of classes and seminars.
